We are looking for experienced Geotechnical Materials Field Technician with possible lab experience. This is a great opportunity for those looking to continue expanding their career potential. We have a lot of work in the foreseeable future. Successful candidate will be potentially responsible for testing of concrete, soils and asphalt. Experience would be preferred but not necessary. Experience would include: certifications such as ACI, WAQTC, NICET, and/or CAPA. Position will also include laboratory work, including but not limited to proctors, aggregate testing, sieve analysis, etc.

Job Description

We are actively seeking a team member who is currently working in the field of geotechnical engineering. You will be assisting project managers while working directly with clients under the supervision of a professional engineer logging and classification of soils in the field, performing geotechnical subsurface evaluations, foundation designs and calculations, septic designs, creating figures in CAD, shoring designs, and assisting in the oversight of lab analysis and troubleshooting. Additional duties include compilation of geotechnical laboratory test data, geotechnical calculations, lateral earth pressure, foundation capacity, settlements, and deep foundation design.

Education

B.S. / B.A. (Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering) and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) certification required.

Required Skills

The successful candidate will be entry level with up to two years of experience, preferably with a geotechnical consulting firm performing duties described above. Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, positive attitude, good organizational skills, and a strong work ethic. Must be able to work both independently and as a team member.

The Position

We are actively seeking a motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our rapidly growing family-owned Engineering firm.  This position will provide geotechnical engineering related to planning, design, analysis, oversight, and studies for project-specific solutions. This position will serve as lead project manager for the team, focusing on project execution, winning repeat work, and managing key client accounts. You will also perform geotechnical engineering design, project proposal and management duties with integrity and a drive to succeed. This role has a flexible work environment with options to work from home.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for scheduling/coordinating geotechnical specific work, as well as managing a team of Professional Engineers for a variety of projects, including residential and commercial foundation design.

Investigate residential and commercial sites to evaluate the cause and origin of geotechnical failure, damage, or defects.  Conduct and manage forensic geotechnical evaluations and direct, review, and oversee small to large private and public geotechnical projects.

Candidate will assist in providing engineering & construction related planning, analysis and oversight.

Successful candidate will mentor junior staff members, provide leadership, maintain client relationships, assist with marketing and business development, provide ongoing training to engineering staff, provide direction and review of engineering work products, prepare, review, and sign geotechnical proposals and reports.

Requirements:

This position requires experience in all phases of geotechnical and construction management, with a strong focus on client development meetings, proposals, and report creation and submission, and the ability to effectively problem solve and support clients and project portfolios.

Must be a licensed P.E. in the state of Colorado, with minimum of 8 years’ relevant work experience.

Education requirements: BS in Civil Engineering with geotechnical emphasis required, MS preferred.

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, proven track record of leadership, and experience as a positive mentor to junior staff.

Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

In addition, they should have strong critical thinking skills, as well as strong writing and communication skills.

Candidate should have a proven track record of successful client relationships.

Candidate may be required to do some occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).

Salary Range

Typical salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 and is commensurate with experience relative to the position.

The Position

We are actively seeking a strong leader as our Field Operations Manager to join our rapidly growing family-owned Engineering firm. This position will oversee the daily operations of the field services department, as well as support the project managers by providing field and/or laboratory observation and testing. This position will require both an in office and in the field presence.

This position will serve as lead project manager for the team, focusing on project execution, winning repeat work, and managing key client accounts. You will also perform geotechnical engineering design, project proposal and management duties with integrity and a drive to succeed. This role has a flexible work environment with options to work from home.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working in conjunction with the Construction Services coordinator for scheduling the field technicians and inspectors for projects.
  • Participate in the interviewing and hiring process and initial and on-going training of all field technicians and inspectors. Orchestrate needed technician certifications.
  • Visit the project sites to evaluate the work being performed by the field technicians.
  • Review all field-related paperwork.
  • Coordinate, as necessary, between project managers, field technicians, and field personnel between offices.
  • Provide useful productive work for the field technicians during low work periods. Coordinate fieldwork and sampling between the office laboratories.
  • Prepare and conduct quarterly quality control field technician meetings.
  • Oversee the proper handling of the nuclear density gauges in conjunction with the company radiation safety officer.
  • Periodically inspect/review the equipment being used by the individual field technicians. Assist with procurement of supplies and testing equipment.
  • Assist project managers in troubleshooting project related issues and implementation of policies in relation to field operations.
  • Maintain company fleet vehicles and coordinate needed service.
  • Execute and maintain the Best Engineering Quality Assurance protocol in all field work.

  • Maintain proper, accurate, and complete files of field and laboratory data, reports, letters, and other pertinent project data.
  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable regarding the standard test methods for all of the tests performed by a Field Technician and perform these tests in the field.
  • Report to the assigned project site at the time requested and remain at the site performing the expected tasks until completion of the workday or until relieved.
  • Maintain clear communications with the Project Manager regarding all aspects of the field operations.
  • Attend the monthly Technician Quality Control meetings and periodic professional seminars to improve Field Technician skills.
  • Upload dailies and other project documents to Dropbox and communicate with the Project Manager.
  • Arrive at a site with all the equipment, paperwork, and supplies necessary to perform the requested tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Attention to detail, integrity, organization, communication, interpersonal, clerical, and computer skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively and lead by example using tact and discretion.
  • 4+ years of field or laboratory technician experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to adapt to changing weather conditions and varying terrains.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, postage machine, and fax machines. Field equipment (e.g., safety gear, rock hammers, hand augers, manometers, PIDs, etc.) and other types of equipment may be used during field visits.
  • Operate equipment, which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged sitting as well as maneuvering around large field equipment and machinery.
