Best Engineering completed a geotechnical engineering study for a project located at Eldora Ski Resort in Nederland, Colorado for Symmetry Builders who was the general contractor for the project. The building has been designed to increase the capacity for adaptive athletes at the mountain, and to create a more accessible learning experience for both adaptive and young skiers and snowboarders in the region. The construction consisted of a ski lodge and surrounding sidewalks. The study was conducted to provide foundation design and support of slab-on-grade recommendations. Best Engineering’s field exploration consisted of four investigative borings completed to collect information on the subsurface conditions. Samples of the soils collected were tested in the laboratory to determine their classification and engineering characteristics. The results of the field exploration and laboratory testing were analyzed to develop recommendations for foundation types, depths, and allowable soil bearing pressures for the proposed building foundations. Additional geotechnical services provided by Best Engineering include open hole inspections, soils compaction and density testing, sub-grade prep for concrete placement, and testing concrete for fresh properties(air, slump, unit weight) and compressive strength. Special inspections performed by BEST include foundation, welding, reinforcement steel, as well as drain and damp proofing.
